Testing New Boba for a Modern Web Design Project

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store selling handmade jewelry when I stumbled upon New Boba. It’s a modern and cute handwritten display font that caught my eye immediately. As someone who spends a lot of time choosing the right typography for digital projects, I knew this could be a game-changer for the brand’s visual identity.

A First Look at New Boba

New Boba has a soft, organic feel with gentle curves and a friendly personality. It looks like it was written by hand, which gives it a personal and approachable vibe. This makes it perfect for brands that want to convey warmth, creativity, and authenticity in their web design.

The font is ideal for use in headers, banners, and other areas where you want to draw attention without overwhelming the reader. Its character shapes are clean and well-balanced, making it readable even at smaller sizes when used appropriately.

Using New Boba in a Real Website Layout

I decided to test New Boba in the hero section of the website. The goal was to create a bold headline that would stand out against a full-screen image of a beautiful piece of jewelry. I placed the headline over the image using a semi-transparent overlay to ensure readability.

On desktop, the font looked great—bold and expressive. But when I checked the mobile version, I noticed that the letters were slightly too large and spaced out. I adjusted the font size and line height to make sure the text remained legible on smaller screens. This small tweak made a big difference in how the headline performed across devices.

Where New Boba Works Best

New Boba shines in areas where you want to add personality without sacrificing clarity. Here are a few places where I found it particularly effective:

However, I wouldn’t recommend using it for long blocks of body text. Its handwritten style can be hard to read in extended paragraphs, especially on mobile devices. That’s why it works best as a decorative accent rather than a primary typeface.

Font Pairing and Readability Tips

To keep the design polished, I paired New Boba with a clean sans serif font for body copy. Using a complementary typeface helps maintain a balance between creativity and usability. For example, pairing it with something like Montserrat or Open Sans ensures that the overall layout feels cohesive and professional.

Another thing to consider is contrast. When placing New Boba over images or dark backgrounds, I made sure the text had enough contrast to remain legible. A light background with a dark text color worked best for most cases.

For fast-loading websites, I also checked if the font was available as a webfont. Since it is, I was able to include it easily without affecting performance. This is an important factor for any designer looking to implement new fonts on client projects or online stores.

Real-World Application: A Coaching Website Example

I later used New Boba on a coaching website project. The client wanted a warm and inviting look, and the font fit perfectly. It was used for the site header, section titles, and promotional banners. The result was a visually appealing layout that felt both professional and personable.

The font helped reinforce the brand’s message of support and creativity. It wasn’t just about aesthetics—it played a role in building trust and engagement with the audience.

Considerations Before Using New Boba

Before implementing New Boba on any project, it’s important to check what styles and weights are included. Some display fonts come with only a few variations, so knowing what you have access to will help you make better design decisions.

Also, if you plan to use the font commercially, be sure to review the licensing terms. While New Boba is listed under Freebies, it’s always good to confirm whether it’s suitable for your specific use case—whether it’s a personal project, client work, or a product landing page.

Lastly, testing the font across different platforms and screen sizes is essential. Just because it looks great on a desktop doesn’t mean it will perform equally well on mobile. Taking the time to refine the details will lead to a more polished and user-friendly experience.
